TIME Project and Gwanda High School embark on an annual S.C.A.D programme

The Talent Innovation and Mentorship Exercise, T.I.M.E Project, in partnership with Gwanda high school has embarked on a talent search and promotion initiative programme known as the Schools Creative Arts Drive, S.C.A.D. The TIME Project was established ‘to promote sustainable creative arts industries in Matabeleland South Province in Zimbabwe’.

The S.C.A.D event will take place on the 1st of July 2022 from 0900hrs at the Gwanda District club, emaJahundeni Amahle. The District Schools Inspector, DSI, Mr S. Sibanda will be the guest of honour. The S.C.A.D is an occasion expected to be held annually. The target are pupils between the ages of 12 to 21 years, that is, high school and college students drawn from all parts of the Matabeleland South province.

This first edition of S.C.A.D runs under the theme, “”Amplifying young people’s voices through creative arts” where the following guiding sub themes will be tackled through a participatory, informative and educative approach where students will take part in Public speaking, Poetry, Music and Drama.

Sub themes;

(a) Drugs and Substance Abuse(DSA)

(b) Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR)

(c) Gender Based Violence (GBV)

(d) Climate Change and Environmental issues.

The partners are in full support of the education trajectory where the creative arts will be taught in schools. “As we are launching this initiative, we are complimenting government ‘s effort in the introduction of the new curriculum syllabus which now enables creative arts to be taught in schools at the same time engaging young people to amplify their voices in information dissemination and sharing of various issues that concern them using the creative arts as a viable medium of communication”.

“A series of skills training workshops for students will be conducted once every school term in a coodinated approach in partnership and collaboration with different organisations, institutions and individuals within the creative arts sector”.
