Ezebhubesi: Brian Sibanda’s Musical Journey

Brian Sibanda is a talented musician, lead vocalist, songwriter, and scriptwriter, and the driving force behind Ezebhubesi The Lion’s Pride. His creative journey began in 2018, rooted in a deep love for his cultural heritage. Growing up in Mbimba village, Plumtree, Zimbabwe, Brian embraced traditional attire and immersed himself in Imbube music, a genre cherished in the Matabeleland region. He also finds solace and inspiration in gospel music, which uplifts him and helps shape his identity.

The name “Ezebhubesi” translates to “Lion’s Pride” in Nguni dialects, symbolizing both their cultural heritage and their commitment to showcasing African talent. Based in South Africa, the group is known for their dynamic performances and infectious songs that fuse traditional African music with contemporary Afro-pop. Their music features vibrant beats, harmonious vocals, and lyrics that celebrate cultural roots and everyday experiences.

Brian draws inspiration from his father, Zephania Sibanda—known in the arts as The Big Animal—and from other renowned artists such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Lovemore Majaivana, Shabalala Rhythms, and Mbongeni Ngema.

Since embarking on his musical career, Ezebhubesi has made significant strides, releasing two albums: *Zangene’ Zebhubesi* in 2018 and *Journey of My Life* in 2022, along with singles *Dear Bambo Lwami* (2023) and *Dilika Ntaba* (2024). He is currently working on his third album, set to launch in 2025, alongside a new single releasing in November. Next year marks a special milestone as he celebrates seven years in music and his birthday on the same day as his album launch.

Ezebhubesi recently showcased their music project at the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein on July 27, 2024, highlighting their unique sound and artistic vision. The group has collaborated with various artists, including Prosperity Melinda Mpofu, Candy Ncube, and Donald Donny Mlalazi, gaining valuable insights from these diverse musical partnerships. They were also honored with the Song of the Year (Dear Bambo Lwami) award at Amaqhawanentaba FM.

Brian expresses gratitude for the visibility gained through the Miss Rural Zimbabwe pageant, viewing it as an opportunity to promote his brand in Zimbabwe rather than a money-making endeavor.
